A Young Gary Spence
About Gary Spence
Like many radio DJ’s, Gary started his career playing music at weddings and parties, eventually becoming an accomplished entertainer. His real love, however, was soul and smooth jazz, and for a while in 1982 he became a presenter on Horizon Radio in its early days.
Later in the 80’s, he became a hospital radio presenter, eventually becoming manager of Woodside Radio, Newham General Hospital . For a short time in the 1990’s he joined the pirate station Concept Radio, but was forced to give it up after the “Health Trust” told him that he couldn’t remain as hospital radio manager if he also worked for a pirate station!
Gary currently presents the Monday evening show (8pm-10pm) on Solar, playing his favourite soul and smooth jazz, plus unveiling the "Sweet Rhythms Chart" at 9pm. Other features of the programme include "Two jazz tracks back to back,club classics and interviews including Seek,Rosie Gaines,Howard hewett,Kloud 9,Kindred,Frank McComb.Miles j.Will Downing.Bluey from Incognito,Dennis Taylor,Brenda Russell,Ola Onablule,Marc Staggers,Stephanie mills,Nicolas Bearde,Aneel,Brigette,Ian Martin,da Producers,Carleen Anderson,Ruby Turner,Conya Doss,Junior Giscombe,The Persuaders,Tasha's world,Metropolis and Maysa Leek.
In 2002 a radio station in Poland called Vigor fm sponsored and rebroadcast my Monday evening show for three months, Gary was invited to present a live show from their studio which was a great success.
Gary now also presents the 'Soulchoonz Show' which features select new and upcoming artists on the first Saturday of every month. In short, Gary is a 'Super Soulful' presenter that must be heard and seen. Wow he sounds great!!
